Despite taking a beating on Twitter, author Lerato Tshabalala says her views about black excellence were taken out of context.
Tshabalala, who penned The Way I See It: The Musings of a Black Woman in the Rainbow Nation, says last week's piece in the Sunday Times "was 800 words of a 2000-word chapter in a book of 17 chapters".Critics of the excerpt "Why I hire blue eyes not black guys" say she is guilty of generalising.Tshabalala had written: "You see, white people sign contracts, give invoices and don't usually leave without finishing the job."Speaking on the DJ Sbu Breakfast show yesterday, Tshabalala said the longer extract linked her comments to her life experience."The context that was taken out [of the Sunday Times excerpt] was what had happened to me before," she said.
